SFA Track & Field Hosts Dogwood Invitational

March 23, 2007

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team returns to action Friday afternoon in the annual Dogwood Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m. with the triple jump, hammer and pole vault. The track events will get under way at 7:30 p.m. with the women's steeplechase, followed by the men's steeplechase. The first day of competition will conclude with the running of the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races. The meet will take place at Fletcher Garner Track in Homer Bryce Stadium.

Competition will pick back up Saturday morning with the conclusion of the field events. The high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin and discus will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Dogwood Invitational will consist of a four-team field. SFA will face Sam Houston State, Rice and Jarvis Christian College.

The Dogwood Invitational is only the second meet of the outdoor season for the SFA men and women. SFA kicked off the outdoor season at NSU Invitational in Natchitoches, La., back on March 7th. SFA had a strong performance in Natchitoches, winning eight individual titles, led by junior pole vaulter Laura Mikeska who recorded a stadium recorded when she cleared a height of 11-5.75.

SFA returns to action Thursday when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Combined Events. Saturday SFA will be in Houston competing at the Rice Bayou Classic.
